Citation Styles: APA, MLA, Chicago, Turabian

Are you confused about different citation styles? There are some citation styles, but APA, MLA, Chicago, and Turabian are citation styles that primarily instructor recommends. First of all, start from what is the citation? Citation is a site’s address of reference from where it belongs. It is the method to tell the reader that particular material is from another source to write a personal statement

What information does the citation include?

It gives the information regarding:

  • Author’s name
  • Research paper’s title
  • Name of journal
  • Volume of journal
  • The location where study carried on
  • Publisher’s company and location
  • Date of publication

There are different styles of citations, commonly used types in academic writing are mentioned below:

  1. APA style
  2. MLA style
  3. Chicago
  4. Turabian

APA Style:

  • The instructor usually recommends citation styles, but if you have flexibility, then the American Psychological Association style is best for science, education, and engineering-related academic work.
  • Review articles, research papers, journals mostly follow APA referencing style.
  • In an APA format paper, you will use parentheses in the text, and a Reference list will be present at the end of the research paper, which links the text with the source.
  • APA reference will include the author's name, year of publication, journal in which the paper is published, along with the edition number, volume number, and page number.
  • Commas are used in APA in-text citation style. Technical essay writing usually follows APA style.

MLA style:

  • MLA style is commonly used in Humanities subjects such as English, other languages, linguistics, Philosophy Arts, Music, Religion Studies and History.
  • In Modern Language Association for sources referencing, brief parentheses are written in text. Then an alphabetically arranged list is present at the end of the paper that cited all the references, and this list is also known as the "Works cited list."
  • MLA citation style includes the authors' name, source of title, and Academic journal with the volume, issue number, and page number to write a personal statement writing in MLA Style
  • In APA, the reference list is titled as References, while in MLA, it is titled as Works cited.
  • In APA, only necessary main keywords are capitalized, while in MLA, all major vital words are written capital.
  • In MLA, the full name of the author is used, not only the last word.
  • Commas are not used in MLA in-text citation style.

Chicago style:

  • If you are looking for how to implement Chicago style to write my essay then here is the guideline. Chicago citation style was published by the Press of Chicago University in 1906. This style includes rules related to grammar and punctuation in American English.
  • It further has two types. The type which you will choose depends on the subject, source’s nature. Following are the types:
  • Notes and Bibliography.
  • Author-Date.
  • Notes and Bibliography Chicago style is mainly preferred in History and humanities. It used endnotes as well as footnotes to link the referenced text to sources.
  • It has a bibliography page at the end.

Author-date Chicago style is commonly used in social and physical science. In this, sources are cited in text in parentheses with the author’s name and publication date. Then at the end, complete bibliographic information is listed. So, an essay writer can follow this pattern if it suits his essay.

Turabian style:

  • The Turabian citation style is based on another citation style that is the Chicago style. It is named Turabian style due to Kate Turabian, who has written a guide for research students.
  • It further has two different types:
  • Note Bibliographic style: This citation form includes a footnote at the page’s bottom, superscript’s number, and bibliography when you are writing a personal essay
  • Author-Date Style: It includes parenthesis in the text in which the author and date of publication are written. At the same time, a bibliography is present at the end of the paper.

Perfect essay writing is not possible without proper in-text citations. You can discuss all your citation style requirements with different essay writers that are experts in their domain so you can have a properly well-cited referenced research article.
